K.I.Ds in Romania was founded in 2003 although Sue and Terry Wright have been working in Romania since October 1995. Our main project at that time was to run the childrens orphanage Casa Ioana located in Botosani.

Initially we did this under the umbrella of "Bridge of Christian Relief England" who founded the orphanage. We were blessed to be involved in this work for 12 years and saw many children come and go. Our prayer was that although we would only see some of them for a short time, we prayed that they would know and experience the love of God. That they would know even though they have been abandoned by thier earthly parents their Father in heaven would never desert them.

However in order to fully support Casa Ioana it was felt that we needed to have our own identity, hence K.I.Ds in Romania was founded.

After helping Casa Ioana to establish a small internet business and ensuring that support was in place, and supplying food and clothing to last a further 3 months we felt that Casa Ioana was in a wonderful position to support itself. It was always our intention to get them to this point and after lots of prayer it was time. So Sept 06 was the point where Casa Ioana took responsibilty for itself and stopped relying on us.

Since this time we have not left them totally but rather we 'pop' in unexpectedly to see how they are doing. By and large they are doing great and as the oldest children move on they have brought new younger ones in. The house is buzzing with the sound of young children once again, and they are proving to be a handful to Cristi and Alina. It is a joy to see how they are getting on.

They have received some help from a Dutch organisation which has been a blessing for them in this time of economic difficulty.

This released us to be able to pursue other projects and we firmly felt that we should support families who were poor. We believe that by supporting families this would break the cycle of families abandoning their children to orphanages or the streets.

As you read through the pages of this site I am sure you will agree that it was the right decision. We are blessed and priviledged to be helping so many people.

Of course this work is only possible through the grace of our Lord Jesus and the wonderful partners we have the, St Andrews Christian Mission (incidently this charity was formed in Romania in 1994 and is totaly unconnected to St Andrews church in Chorleywood where we worship, a fine example of a "God incidence" not a coincidence).

This is run by Pastor Marius Motora and his wife Carmen both have dedicated themselves sacrificially to this work. We give God all the thanks, praise and glory for them.

Location

We work in many towns and villages in the North east of Romania and the Village of Vladeni which is 7km outside of Botosni is where it all started with a wonderful lady called Adela Fetescu. This lady is one lovely character who gives us so much pleasure, but is a challenge to those in her community.

The county of Botosani in the north of Romania has a population of 150,000 with most living in the villages. Our town is also called Botosani (pronounced Botoshan), north-west of Iasi. The town has a population of about 80,000 but is very poor with the second highest level of unemployment in Romania. The nearest airport is in Suceava (Salcea) which is 40 minutes by car from our home or seven hours by taxi from Bucharest Otopeni International.
